Avigail and David - these are the power couple of recent years. The most popular names for girls and boys in the past calendar year, within the Jewish sector, according to the Central Bureau of Statistics. Avigail and David continue to reign supreme, highly favored by Israeli parents. What else do they like?

The name David, which has held the top spot for years, continues to lead (only in the Jewish sector, although it is also common in generally short versions like "Daud" in the Arab sector). For girls, Avigail is at the top. But beyond the leaders, there are plenty of interesting shifts.

The leading names show a strong preference for names that are both traditional and modern.

After Avigail, we find "Ayala" rising to second place for girls, pushing "Tamar" to third. "Noa", a long-time favorite, holds strong in fourth place. Representing a modern twist is "Maya" in fifth place, proving that short, international-sounding names are still in vogue.

"Adel", known for its modern flair, remains in the top ten. The list is rounded out by classics like "Sarah", "Yael", "Libi", and "Esther", showing a beautiful mix of biblical heritage and contemporary sound.

And what about the boys? After David and Ariel, in third place, we meet a rising star - "Lavi" (Lion), which has surged in popularity. "Raphael" continues the genre of names from the sources in fourth place. "Uri" and "Noam" follow, offering light and pleasant meanings.

"Eitan" (often spelled Ethan) remains a strong choice in seventh place. "Ari", another lion-inspired name, sits comfortably in eighth. "Daniel" and "Yehuda" round out the top ten, proving their timeless appeal. Notably, boys' names in the top ten are almost exclusively Hebrew, showing a deep connection to tradition.

Did you manage to follow the trends? It seems Israeli parents are sticking to roots while embracing names that sound great today.
